Dr. Gardner's Famous
Virtually Painless InjectionMost of our patients never know they
have received an injection. That's because of Dr. Gardner's famous
virtually "Painless Injection" technique. Dr. Gardner and Dr. Burch's patients brag about how they can sneak injections right by them easily and painlessly.
Injectable anesthetics, such as
Lidocaine, prevent pain in a specific area of your mouth during
treatment by blocking the nerves that sense or transmit pain and
numbing mouth tissues.
They cause the temporary numbness often referred to as a "fat lip"
feeling. Injectable anesthetics may be used in such procedures
as filling cavities, preparing teeth for crowns or treating gum
disease.
Sedation Dentistry with Dr. Burch in Conroe
Often times other offices use terms such as "sleep dentistry" or "twilight sleep" when talking about sedation. This can be confusing since it suggests the patient will be "put to sleep." The reality is that you remain conscious during IV sedation. You have control of your breathing, reflexes and will also be able to understand your dentist and respond to his requests.
When the visit is completed, most people feel like there were asleep because the medications used induce a state of relaxation, and the majority of patients don't remember much of the procedure performed. This makes it feel as though the appointment was much shorter than it actually was.
Although our office, like most others, also performs "oral sedation," or taking a pill for sedation, IV sedation offer some advantages. The main advantage is the medication used during IV sedation is effective much more quickly than in pill form, so it allows the dentist to use additional dosing if needed to achieve a more desired level of sedation and tailor it to the patient's needs.
